RAKU DAYS

About our Raku Days.....

Our Raku Days have been established now for over 30 years.  The dedicated Raku area although outside, has a covered roof, making this an all weather situation.  The Glazing and Firing areas are adjacent to each other. There are three Raku Kilns, and a selection of  glazes, all of which are tried and tested. The Raku Days run from 10am til 4pm. Students should bring a picnic lunch and own drinks.. In cold weather warm clothes should be worn. There is some smoke, although we are able to minimise this with our clever reduction boxes. Each student has to sign a disclaimer booking form on arrival. A health and Safety briefing is given on every day, there is a strong emphasis on being safe. We deal with some very hot pieces, and safety is our priority. The cost is £70 per student, pay on the day, cash or card. (Sorry No cheques)  Please, only book if you are certain you can attend. These days are very popular, and numbers are limited. If you fail to turn up you still have to pay. Students should bring up to 6 pots each, made in a suitable clay, and Bisque Fired.  If you are in any doubt about this please call me or talk to your tutor or potter. Those who are unable to have there own work can purchase ready made pots at £10 each, please advise when booking, I need at least 3 weeks notice to provide this service. Please no flat wide pieces,  they gobble up all the space in the kilns, and are likely to break anyway. Individual pieces can be up to 10"/25cm tall, and no more than 5" 13cm wide. Please consider when you make your pots, that I have to lift them out with tongs.  All work is taken away at the end of each day.  If your work is on a small scale then I can arrange with you to have one or two extra pieces. Please contact me before hand. For a fee I can also Biscuit fire work ahead of a day, so again please contact me if you would like me to biscuit fire pots for you.
